International Day of Peace - Living Peace Museum's Teacher's Guide Available
International Day of Peace is celebrated on September 21st around the world. First established in 1981 by the United Nations as a way for humanity to come together globally to set aside differences in the name of Peace. In 2001, it was designated as a Day of ceasefire and a period of non-violence.
Teaching about International Day of Peace is an excellent way for students to think critically about how they can contribute towards peace and learn how to communicate to make positive changes in their relationships, communities, and to build a more peaceful world.
The Living Peace Museum offers education resources to introduce the fascinating history of peace to teachers, parents and students. Featured teacher’s guide ‘Talking Circles’ describes the diverse ways cultural communities use traditional peacemaking and reconciliation practices to resolve conflict.
